Changing Your Health

February 16, 2018

One of the things that I find fascinating, is that most people really do want to change their health. They want to exercise, eat right, stay healthy, live longer and lead active productive lives.

However what I've found is that most people want the quickest, easiest way to get to the best possible life. Well! Don't we all! But if we take a good hard look at reality, is that possible?

Because we live in such a "I need it now" society. We often think our health should be just as easy as pressing a button or clicking an app and voila - they key to health is a few clicks away and then, I just go about my every day business.

But it's not like that at all. In fact good health, healthy eating, living well - is all a journey. It is not a fad, or a one size fits all. It's not a crash course or a pill. It's a process, a journey, a learning adventure, a challenge, an awakening, an ever evolving part of a healthy you.

Once we embark on that journey, we add to our journal an exciting collection of healthy lifestyle additions, recipes, social circle of friends, classes, personal health milestones and so much more. We document and can see the changes. Maybe that is weight loss, or changes in physical health conditions, or reductions in medications or exercise and fitness goals.

I once read "if you keep doing what you are doing, you will keep getting what you got" Wow! A profound statement for those of us who want to change and have all the benefits that go with change... but want none of the work that goes into making the changes.

Here is what I tell my classes... learning to eat healthy IS a journey. We did not get into bad shape over night... it happened over a period of time, sometimes many years of unhealthy eating and lifestyle choices. Maybe we didn't know or maybe we did, but didn't care or listen until life gave us a wake up call.

Making changes requires a commitment to try. It requires relearning things we thought we knew or processing new information. Making Healthy changes takes time.  Takes patience. Takes being kind to yourself, learning, making mistakes and the gumption to keep moving forward one step at a time.

Only YOU have the power to change your health. No one else can do it for you. We are the choices we make. Choose health. Choose to live a healthy life. Your best life is waiting for you.
